Abe came to us through our friends at the American Lurcher Project.

This handsome fellow retired at a very young age as he had no desire to chase anything. Playing is what is on his mind as he is still very much a puppy. Abe is affectionate and cuddly and loves to place his head in your lap and gaze into your eyes. He is curious about all the new things he finds around the house and is working to learn that counters are not for dogs.

He does great in his crate while his foster family is at work. Abe has done well with his house training and will pace or whine to let you know he needs to go out. He happily sleeps through the night cuddled up on his dog bed. Abe loves to go for walks and will anxiously pull at the start of a walk but settles quickly once he gets going.

Abe has the confidence to be an only dog - in a home where the folks are not gone for long hours - but he would also emjoy having a medium sized dog in his home as a playmate. On leash, he has been good when meeting smaller or medium sized dogs, but is a little intimidated by those larger than him. With some more exposure and reassurance that there is nothing to worry about, and as he gets to know the larger dogs, he should get over this reaction. Although he tested as cat workable, he is very interested in outdoor cats so a home with no kitties would likely be best for him.

Betsy came to us through our friends at the American Lurcher Project.

This tiny wee girl is a pure joy to have around. She loves her people and always wants to be near them. She is still a bit unsure of house rules and takes her cues from the other greyhound in her foster home. She would do best in a home with a canine companion. Betsy crates well during the day while her foster parents are at work but prefers to be somewhere comfy looking out the window.

Betsy is working on her house manners, but when she goes out to do her business she is easily startled or distracted and forgets to go until she is back in the house. With a watchful eye and consistent reinforcement, she will soon master this. In the house she will snuggle up with her people or share a bed with another dog. She has no issue sharing toys and even treats and chews! Betsy has good leash manners and enjoys walks but can still be quite alarmed by loud, unfamiliar sounds. She also is interested in squirrels and birds but corrects quickly. She is very social towards dogs of all sizes and loves running and playing with them at the fenced dog park. She has been around a few older children and has done well. Betsy would do amazing with some obedience or basic handling training – she is one smart cookie!

She is an absolutely cuddly little angel!

Booster is a great young guy!

His house manners are impeccable and he has settled in really well to home living. He does not like his crate but his foster folks are working on that in short stints. His leash manners are improving every day. He is a snuggly boy who loves to be in the same room as people but does well on his own while his foster family is at work.

Cajun is a sweet soul.

He likes to be around his people and settles in for the night quickly in his doggy bed beside the human bed. He sleeps great through the night, but definitely knows when it’s time for breakfast! He hasn’t had any accidents in the house, and I’m sure with any consistent schedule he will continue to be good. He is crated while his foster folks are at work, and while he doesn’t love it, he does settle in with a frozen kong and naps till they get home. When his foster family is at home, Cajun enjoys napping the day away on his bed, coming over occasionally for some scratches.

Cajun is working on understanding that counters are not for dogs. He is a tall boy so his snoot grazes the top of the counter often but a quick correction is enough to stop him. Cajun walks like a dream on leash, keeping your pace. He currently gets 4-5 walks a day, but several of those are shorter “bathroom break” walks. He can get a little rambunctious if you’re gone for a long while or gets shorter walks. He does well with the few larger dogs that he has met on walks. He shows interest in smaller dogs as well as squirrels but is easily re-directed. Cajun does get a little nervous around tiny humans and will hide from their grabbing hands so a home with no small children would be most suitable for him.

Miller came to NSGA when her previous owner passed away.

Hi there, my name is Miller.   I was bred to race but my momma loved me to much to let me go when it came time for me to go to work. So I went back home and lived with her and my sisters until I came to NSGA.  I really miss my momma!  I wouldn't mind having a home where there is just one person around - that's kind of what I am used to  - but I would prefer there not to be anly little kids in the home.   I would also prefer there to be no other dogs and definitely none of those cat critters.  I love to go on walks - everything is new and exciting especially those squirrels and bunnies and those cat critters.  But I walk well beside my person.  At home, I love to follow my foster mom around - wherever she is I want to be.  She says I am a really good girl with really good house manners even if  sometimes I can get a little goofy.  I really want a home of my own again - could you be the person for me?

Miller is being fostered in Calgary.

Party is a super friendly and calm girl.

She is good on the leash and loves her walks. Although she is very interested in squirrels and rabbits and curious about other dogs on walks, she responds well to correction. Party is working on understanding that food on counters and tables are not for dogs. She reacts to sirens - breaking out in a roo each time she hears one. Bedtime is also a work in progress - she only wants to go to bed when ALL her folks do and she would prefer to sleep on a dog bed in her folks room. She is hesitant about stairs and her foster family is still working on this.

Party would likely be fine as an only dog in a home where the folks are not gone for long work days. Otherwise she will likely need a canine companion in her home.

This sweet girl is being fostered in Calgary, Alberta.
