In the fall of 2000, while on vacation in Arizona, we happened to walk by a greyhound racing track and saw greyhounds for the first time. It was love at first sight and we decided then and there that our next dog would be a retired greyhound. We thought our chance had finally come in 2002, when we learned through a newscast that a group of retired greys were headed to Alberta. However, we were turned down because we had cats.
In September 2003 I found myself driving from Winnipeg to Calgary to meet my first greyhound, Jack. Although I had waited for this moment for a long time, I was excited and scared at the same time.
After reading an article a few years earlier I had decided that this was the right dog for me, but I had never actually seen one here in Winnipeg. And then I met Cody. He was just beautiful and so sweet and I was smitten.
I was raised with dogs and always had a dog in my life ranging from St Bernards to Pembroke Welsh Corgis. I was involved in the show world of confirmation and obedience training with my corgis from 1984 – 2000.
