Akita is a happy, friendly girl.

She is good with the other big dogs in her foster home, but has not been introduced to smaller dogs. She definitely does not want to live with kitties. Akita is a hugger and a smiler - she really does love people. She is crating well while her foster family is at work, but is equally comfortable lounging on a dog bed.

SPECIAL NEEDS - Beretta is a little reserved until she gets to know you, but once she is comfortable with you, her tail never stops wagging.

This sweet little girl had an accident while training to race which resulted in a brain injury.  The injury presents in the way she holds her head and walks in circles.  She is a little reluctant to walk on leash but as long as you keep her right by your left side, she will go forward without circling.  This may over time improve but it is unlikely that her condition will worsen and our vet feels that she can have a long and happy retirement in the right forever home.

She loves her crate - it is a real comfort to her and she stays comfortably in it almost all the time.  It takes some gentle encouragement to get her to go out for a walk.  Due to the effect on her walking, it would not be safe for her to go to a home with lots of stairs.  Older children would be fine, but she may find younger children overwhelming.  She also would not be suitable for a busy household or one that wants to take their dog on long walks, hiking, camping, etc.

If you are looking for a young quiet girl, that just wants to be a stay at home companion and be loved on, this is the girl for you.

Carl is a sweetheart!

He is great on walks and his house manners are wonderful!  He's affectionate and eager to please. Carl accepts correction well and learns quickly. He is a huge hugger and often, will decide to give a hug without any warning.  As he is not a small boy, he could easily knock over young children with his hugs so a home with children 10 or older is probably best for him.

Chaos, needs a new name - there is nothing chaotic about this amazing black gem...

Click on his picture to see more amazing photos of this guy, taken by his foster mom Tracy of www.TRACYPORTRAITS.com

Chaos has settled in nicely. He likes walks and doesn’t pull. He has met several dogs and has been gentle and kind with all. He is mildly interested in the cat in his foster home but is easily corrected. He shares food and dog bones.. his foster sister, basset Winnifred, has snuck a juicy bone from him and he wasn’t bothered at all.

98% of the time he is a very quiet boy, but if there is a game of chase me in the back yard he will bark in excitement. Not one mess in the house, when he needs to go out to pee he just gets up and walks to the door.

He is overall an excellent companion. He does like the company of our basset so would probably enjoy having a doggy buddy.

Chaos is being fostered in Melville, Saskatchewan.

This darling little girl just wants a home with people of her own.

Cheetah came to us through the American Lurcher Project. Unlike the life of many lurchers, Cheetah was well taken care of by her owner. She was with the same owner for her entire life and lived in the house with him rather than chained up outside. Unfortunately he passed away and Cheetah's world came crashing down. Suddenly, at 8 years of age, for the first time in her life, she found herself with strangers, and in a kennel. The changes have been hard on her - you can see the sadness in her soulful eyes.

Cheetah is even calmer than your usual greyhound. She patiently and quietly waits for you to give her your attention. She's never rude or bold or pushy. She loves her walks and is super on the leash, never pulling. She's eager to go at whatever pace you wish and will accommodate her sniffing accordingly. She still enjoys to see a squirrel or rabbit..., but won't take you down in her excitement. Cheetah is being fostered as an only dog but seems to want to play with the dogs on the other side of the fence.

This little one has so much to offer to a family that will open their heart and home to her. Her ears always look like they are blowing in the wind across her body and she has the softest coat - perfect for petting. She is comfortable sleeping in her crate. She's a natural house dog. No adjustments necessary.

This gentle senior boy has come back to NSGA through no fault of his own.

Little is known about his life prior to coming into care with the American Lurcher Project. He is estimated to be between 8-10 years of age. Like all lurchers, this is his first taste of how good home life can be.

Dancer would love a home where he could be either the only dog or with a dog closer to his age. No kitties though, please. He crates well but is fine when left out of the crate while his folks are away. He will seek out attention from his foster family but is always polite about asking for pets.

He loves to walk and is a dream on the leash. His foster family describes walking him as "guiding around a cloud". Nothing spooks him or makes him pull on leash, although he is curious when he meets other dogs on walks. Although there are no children in his foster home, he has welcomed pets and affection from the kids he has met on walks.

Dancer aims to please and corrects easily. He has had no accidents in the house and is quickly learning to go to the back door when he needs to go out. And did we mention just how handsome he is? He is an eye-catcher!

Are you the forever home Dancer has longed for? He is so ready to meet you.

Denny Boy (Little Man) is a young male who is definitely on the shy side.

Denny is going to need a family that is committed to helping him build his confidence in this strange new world in which he finds himself.  He is initially very reserved when meeting new people, but is oh so calm and sweet for such a young guy.  He is awesome in the house - no accidents and will easily crate when asked.  Denny gets along well with cats, wtih other dogs, but may find very young children a little overwhelming.

Looking for a 70-lb cuddle bug? Look no further. Elmo is absolutely the sweetest, most mild mannered and handsome boy.

He's a happy pup and loves to play with his squeaky toy, but he loves his humans more. I think Elmo would do best with another dog for companionship. He pretty much abandoned his crate after 24 hours - finding his bed more comfortable or cuddling by your side on the sofa as you watch tv. He is very smart and already knows to sit or lay down on his bed for treats. He likes to push his boundaries in the kitchen, but his foster family is working on it. He's an early riser, so there may be no sleeping in in his forever home.

He walks like a dream on the leash. This dog is in no hurry, so someone who likes an evening stroll would be perfect for Elmo. He settles in the vehicle almost immediately, making him an excellent travel companion. He does the stairs into the landing (4steps) but has no interest in the basement yet. And yup - he pretty much likes the couch!

Elmo's pretty much perfect. With him you get a little bit of play in the morning and night, and a real gentleman the rest of the time. He is a dog that really wants to be the best he can be for his human(s).

Elmo is being fostered in Lumsden, Saskatchewan.

Fish is the perfect guy!

He doesn't mark in the house or on walks, he corrects easily, his leash manners are what we would wish for every dog and he is not demanding. Fish likes a little cuddle, a good walk and a good meal. He's easy and uncomplicated. Every guy should be so willing to please. Fish will crate and hasn't demonstrated any problems when his foster family leaves the house. He likes to sleep in the bedroom with the rest of the gang and really wants to be in the same room as his people.

Fish is very food motivated - he is a little too excited by food to train with it but he is so appreciative of a treat. And he discovered squeaky toys - all of them - he's like a one man band! Fish likes meeting new people and new dogs but he's only met small dogs through the fence and doesn't seem overly interested in them. People are, by far, his favourite thing (and food).
